Birth Doula Apprenticeship Program

The Expecting Joy was created to, not only offer families exceptional service and care during their birth experiences, but also provide a network for experienced (and aspiring) doulas to be able to build a flexible, rewarding practice with other like-minded doulas.

The Apprenticeship

Facilitated by Vanessa Garey, a Certified Nurse Midwife and founder of Expecting Joy, apprentices will:

• Observe and assist in births
• Have an independent client with a doula mentor observing
• Attend prenatal and postpartum visits
• Receive 1:1 mentorship and guidance
• Professional networking opportunities
• Participate in training on topics such as hands-on comfort measures, optimal baby positioning training, and collaborating with medical or midwifery professionals
• Observe childbirth educators conduct monthly group classes
• Complete CPR and First Aid certification

Ready to Get Started?

Expecting Joy will only issue Certificates of Completion to participants present for all of the sessions and who have completed all requirements. The apprenticeship program fee is $800.
